Merlynston action for more trains on the Upfield Line

Sick of our underserviced, overcrowded trains? Get ready for our next action to promote more trains on the Upfield line!

This time it’s in Merlynston at Bain Reserve. More details to come but note it in your diary. This event is family friendly and we encourage you to bring along the kids!

When: Saturday, August 10, 2019 at 11 AM
Where: Bain Reserve, Coburg, (Opposite the Merlynston shops)

Register: on Facebook

Whenever something goes wrong to disrupt the train timetable on the Upfield Line, Metro trains short shunts trains at Coburg. This means people from Coburg and further south tend to have minor disruptions, while the people north of Coburg using Batman, Merlynston, Fawkner, Gowrie and Upfield stations often have services cancelled. This means a 40 minute wait between services. This causes people to be late for work and for other appointments. It has a real world impacts on peoples lives.

There is good reason to duplicate the track now between Gowrie and Upfield as this is a major bottleneck which hinders improving the reliability of service.

Track dupliaction is also required to allow an increase in service frequency once Metro tunnel opens in 2025 to free up capacity in the loop. We would all love to see a 10 minute service, but this requires track duplication and a second platform at Upfield.

Let’s all as a community make a big noise so the politicians cannot ignore us! The State Government needs to give a high priority to track duplication and a second platform at Upfield.
